Waihiga Mwaura (born 6 June ) is a Kenyan journalist and BBC News presenter.

Early life and education
Mwaura was born on 6 June to parents who are both lawyers.[1] He has two siblings.
His family lives in Donholm and then the Westlands neighbourhood of Nairobi.[1]
He has a bachelor's degree in computer science from the African Nazarene University,[1] and a master's degree in communications (Media Studies).[2]
Career
After graduation, Mwaura took an internship at a non-governmental organisation and worked briefly at a bank.[1] His journalism career started in when he was employed as an intern on the Business Desk of Nation Media Group.[2] He joined Citizen TV's producers Royal Media Services in [2][1] where he worked as a producer, and as presenter on the Power Breakfast Show and on Citizen Weekend,[2] as well as presenting the Zinduka show.[1] He won the CNN'sAfrican Journalist Award, Sport Award in ,[2][3] and in , he won the Mohammed Amin Africa award.[4] He later took on news presenting at Citizen TV.[5] In , he won the BBC World NewsKomla Dumor Award.[5]

He is a Christian and worked as a master of ceremonies at his local church.[1]
His father, David Mwaure Waihiga, unsuccessfully ran for President of Kenya in the Kenyan general election.[7][8]
